World Day of Prayer

I beg you, bear with one another in love

…time of new beginning

…time of new beginning

January is the time of new beginning, to make plans and resolutions for the coming year. For many Christians the New Year can begin in December with Christmas and the coming of Our Saviour, Jesus Christ. For others the coming of Christ is heralded by the arrival of the wise men from the east. They had followed the star, the indication that something new and different was going to happen.
We Saw His Star in the East… is the theme for this year’s Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, 18-25 January 2022 is an opportunity for Christians to join in worldwide prayer. Some of the prayers this month are taken from the Week of Prayer, and as we move into the last couple of months of preparation for the World Day of Prayer, there is a prayer from Together in Prayer for 2022.
The presence of Christ, turning the world upside down
Lord, you led us out of darkness to hope in Jesus. Unite us in our commitment to establish your reign of love, justice and peace, bringing light to those living in the darkness of despair and disillusionment. Shine your light upon us and surround us with the warmth of your love. Lift us up to you, so that our lives may glorify you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
They left for their own country by another road
Gracious God, when we only know one way and we think we must return to it, when we think that all roads are blocked, and we fall into despair, we always find you there, creating a new unexpected path before us. If we search our maps and find no route, nonetheless we always find you, who leads us by a yet more excellent way, trusting that you will always lead us back to you and forward in unity together.
From Together in Prayer: I know the plans I have for you
by Jeannie Starr, London 2019.
Oh, human kind, I have plans for you to give you hope and a future.
I made the earth, every land and sea and every living creature.
I gave free will, and all have strayed because of human nature.
I sent my son to die for all and be a gentle teacher

My plan for all is to know Him and be assured of heaven.
He died upon a wooden cross so all could be forgiven.
Sin is rampant through the world, to evil souls were driven;
But through Jesus’ cleansing blood, all can be truly shriven.

Satan tries to thwart God’s plans, but he has been defeated.
His craft and cunning through the years is always being repeated.
Many Christians in the world so often are ill-treated;
But salvation through the cross of Christ has now been completed.

Will you come to Jesus and have your life turned round?
In Him there is real perfect peace and great joy to be found.
Will you surrender all your woes so blessing can abound?
If you do, from your own lips God’s praises will resound.
