Report from The Gathering held by the Scottish WDP Committee
This meeting was held at St Matthews Church Perth on 17 June 2023. It is a lovely venue well designed for meetings, worship and conferences. A warm welcome awaited us together with stalls selling Palestinian food and crafts. The Scottish WDP resources and materials were also there.
The aim of the day was for people to reconnect after the pandemic and to raise awareness of the WDP organisation. The theme of the day was ’Look forward in Faith’, and the rousing worship session to open the day by Major Irene Houston of the Salvation Army enabled us all to feel a part of the service.
Suzanne Foster talked about why we are here and Kathryn Howe the Young Women’s representative Involved us all in group work to explore how we can encourage active participation in the WDP particularly of young people. The managed feedback reflected deep concern and a desire for this to happen.
Muriel Pearson is the Associate Minister at St Andrews Jerusalem and Tiberias. Her address was delivered sincerely with honesty and discretion on the present situation in Palestine. This was an inspired message reflecting the need for prayer that will enable us to sit and learn to listen.
This was an informative day underpinned with prayer and worship. Elaine Duncan represented the Scottish Bible Society and Lesley Buchanan-Donald sang. Senka and Edith spoke of their role on the European WDP Committee.
This was an awareness raising and informative day which is hoped to become an Annual Event. The organisation was competent and succinct. The Scottish Committee worked efficiently as a team and the whole day was impressive. Denominations mingled and networking took place in an atmosphere of fellowship. I am grateful for the opportunity of attending this day and feel that good practice can be shared in our own organisation to enrich the experience of WDP in EWNI.
