BIBLE SOCIETY NORTHERN IRELAND
Bible Society NI is supporting Bible Society of Zimbabwe to run the ‘Empowering Mothers with Differently-Able Children’ project, which takes an holistic approach, showing mothers they are loved and valued by their Creator while also giving them practical tools to help them cope with everyday family life. The project aims to empower mothers from all walks of life with Scripture and support. Many of these families have been rejected or mistreated by society – they find it difficult to attend church and other social gatherings because of the stigma surrounding their children’s conditions.
We provide workshops giving specialist training to these mothers and there are support groups where they can study the Bible together and hear testimonies from others who have raised children with similar problems. This project hopes to reduce the stigma and isolation surrounding these families, while also highlighting the reality of disability in their communities.
Support is also provided for children who may need disability-aids or help with their education. Care is provided for them while their mothers attend workshops. Where needed, there is a literacy element to this project, for children who struggle with dyslexia or other educational needs.
